This article is a continuation to the third part : JoSAA Counselling : Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) : Part 3.

25. Can the choices be edited once they are locked?

No. You cannot edit your choices in any subsequent rounds once they are locked.

Last year there was a provision to edit the choices after third round but the provision has been removed this year.

26. I didn't fill in the choices within the specified date? What should I do?

You are ineligible for further counselling. Remember,  Candidates who do NOT register or fill in the choices within the specified time window WILL NOT be able to seek admission for this academic year.

27. I filled my choices but didn't lock it. What to do?

Don't worry. The choices will be automatically be locked once the time is over.


28. What is a reporting center?

Reporting center are not same as the institute where your seat has been allotted. They are the nearest institutes (distance-wise) listed under JoSAA.

29. Are  reporting center same for both IITs/ISM and NITs/IIITs/GFTIs?

No. the reporting centers are different. You will be informed once you are allotted a seat.

30. I have been allotted a seat in a NIT/IIIT/GFTI. I reported to a reporting center as prescribed. But now I got a upgradation to IIT. Do I have to report again?

Yes you have to report again. This time the reporting center would be different. This is known as dual reporting. Remember if you fail to report, you would be ineligible to seek admission.

31. For the above case if I do not appear in IIT physically. Can I get back my NIT seat again? 

No, you have forfeited the seat; in other words, you have neither the NIT / IIIT / GFTI seat accepted nor the IIT / ISM seat allocated in the subsequent round.

32.  Do I need to pay any fees at the time of seat acceptance? 

At the time of seat acceptance, you have to pay only the seat acceptance fee. It is Rs. 45,000 for GEN, OBC-NCL or Foreign candidates and Rs. 20,000 for SC, ST, GEN-PwD, OBC-NCL-PwD, SC-PwD or ST-PwD candidates.

 The seat acceptance fee will be adjusted against the admission fee by the admitting institute.

33. How to pay seat acceptance fee?

Candidates can remit seat acceptance fee using an e-challan at any branch of State Bank of India [and no other bank].

34. I have a account in ICICI Bank only. Can I make the payment at State Bank of India?

Yes you can. e-challan is like a cheque. It is payable irrespective of the fact that you have an account or not. A nominal bank fee is charged along with the seat acceptance fee.
